Rationale:      Organisations tend to promote or appoint people to supervisory positions on the basis of their good performance at work.  Supervision Skills Development Programme enables the supervisor to acquire “People Skills” necessary to supplement his / her “Technical Skills”.  Both the experience and research have shown that there is no guarantee that a “good performer”, given the opportunity to lead others, will be a “good supervisor”, hence the need for this training to bridge the gap.

For a “good performer” to be equally good as a supervisor, he / she must have ability to do, at least, the following:

Supervise / Manage People at Work
Write a workplace specific Report

Objectives:    Supervision Skills Development Programme aims at:

Training, assessing and awarding a certificate of competence as Supervisor to “all Supervisors or Experienced Employees” especially those appointed to senior positions in terms of Section 8(2)(i) or Construction Regulation 6(1) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations (85 of 1993), or those appointed in terms of Minerals Act Regulation 2.6.1 or 2.9.2 of the Mine Health and Safety Act 29 of 1996 or any other Act or Regulation respectively.

Recognising a Supervisor as a “competent person” who possesses a set of individual performance behaviours that are observable, measurable and critical to successful individual and company performance.

Recognising the acquired Credits as an assessed unit of learning that is registered as part of an Occupational Qualification by the learner's Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA)

Empowering Line Managers, Heads of Departments (HOD), Supervisors / Foremen, Human Resource (HR) Professionals, and those who are being developed to occupy senior positions, with the necessary people skills
